Scholium

There are three days until I fly across the country and determine what I will do for the next seven years.

There are three and a half weeks to nail down the elusive essence of my thesis and churn out another 19 pages -brilliantly constructed- on the nature of suffering.

Buy yet, amidst these stresses and the pull of studies, grading papers, and socializing decently, there is still time for the cup of Dumb Ox hot chocolate, time to sleep for 8 or 9 hours, time to take life -occasionally- at an unhurried and unharried pace. Now, though, it's off to go write.

Notes on Boats

Man is a social animal. What does this mean when it comes to cardboard boat races? As Confucius says, "Better to drown in boat with friends than to win race in own boat alone." Of course, the choice is much sweeter when you end up nearly winning in a 30 foot long boat with a few friends. We won the first heat without competition but sunk before finishing even half of the second race. My own boat didn't fare too well when I took it for a little spin after the race. :o)
